Children with Temperatures

Small children often have high temperatures with minor illnesses. It does not usually indicate serious illness.

Cool the child down by removing clothing, fanning and sponging with tepid water for 10 minutes.

If the child is fretful, give Paracetamol (Calpol etc) NOT aspirin. Give plenty of fluids but do not worry if the child does not eat.

If the child is drowsy, or the temperature does not settle after 36 hours contact the surgery.
